EMT/Paramedic Refresher Courses

Our EMT/Paramedic Refresher courses prepare participants for the skills exam in each area. These courses are offered fully online and are self-paced within the 4-week completion allowance.

CEH-542-01 Paramedic Refresher

The CEH-542: Paramedic Refresher course is designed to cover mandatory core content in 4 divisions and flexible core content in 5 divisions. CEH-542 meets or exceeds the standards of the National Registry of EMTs and Missouri Bureau of EMS.

This 4-week hybrid course is offered online through Blackboard and on campus. Each lesson covers specific content areas and includes key terms, PowerPoints, and practice quizzes. The following content is covered:

  • Airway, Breathing and Cardiology
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Trauma
  • Obstetrics and Pediatrics
  • Operational Tasks

Upon completion, students should be able to pass the skills exam.

After completion of the review course, the paramedic refresher student is required to appear in person for a 90-minute skills exam which is offered one Saturday per month at the OTC main campus.  This skills exam will be administered by a proctor (monitor) utilizing approved skills sheets provided by the Missouri Emergency Medical Services Association (MEMSA.)

The exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions and requires a grade of 75% or better to pass.

  • Airway, Breathing and Cardiolog - 25%
  • Medical Emergencies - 25% 
  • Trauma - 25%
  • Obstetrics and Pediatrics - 15%
  • Operations - 10%

CEH-510-01 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Refresher

CEH 510 is designed to cover mandatory core content in 7 divisions. This 4-week hybrid course is offered partially online through Blackboard and partially on campus. The content is designed to help an EMT Basic refresher student successfully complete the course and the skills exam.

Each lesson covers specific content areas and includes key terms, PowerPoints, and practice quizzes. The following mandatory content is included:

  • PreparatoryAirway
  • OB, Infants, Children
  • Patient Assessment
  • Medical/Behavioral
  • Trauma
  • Elective

Stuents are required t appear in person for a 90-minute skills exam offered one Saturday per month on OTC's main campus in Springfield. The exam is administered by a proctor using approved skills worksheets provided by the Missouri Emergency Medical Services Association (MEMSA). It consists of 100 multiple choice questions and requires 75% to pass. The percentage breakdown is as follows:

  • Preparatory - 5%
  • Airway - 10%
  • OB, Infants, Children - 10%
  • Patient Assessment - 15%
  • Medical/Behavioral - 20%
  • Trauma - 20%Elective - 20%
