Energy Efficiency Training
Energy Efficiency Training
Missouri taxpayers can claim an individual income tax deduction for the cost of a home energy audit and the cost of implementing energy-efficiency recommendations contained in an energy audit, according to Mo. Department of Natural Resources fact sheet PUB2292. To avoid abuse, DNR is requiring home energy auditors to be BPI [Building Performance Institute] certified. To assist, OTC's Center for Workforce Development is offering training classes to assist getting folks employed in these growing fields.
Home Energy Auditor - WIA Approved
This specialized Energy Auditor Training will focus on evaluating and improving the energy efficiency, comfort, indoor air quality, and durability of homes. As a comprehensive training program, it empowers trainees to evaluate the building as a series of interconnected systems. Participants will be trained using special tools necessary for building analysis, including use of blower door, combustion analyzer, combustible gas leak detector, and pressure pan.
The first seven days of Energy Auditor Training consist of classroom instruction, hands-on house demonstrations and a written exam. The following three days, include field work and a two-hour field audit test with the instructor. BPI Energy Auditor Certification is achieved for successful completers of the program.

Failure to follow the rule can result in severe civil penalties and other unpleasantness, including fines of up to $37,500 per day per violation. Renovation is broadly defined as any activity that disturbs painted surfaces and includes most repair, remodeling, and maintenance activities, including window replacement.
