Verification of Lawful Status
Dear Students:
Missouri House Bill 1549 requires that intuitions of higher education verify that students receiving "a public benefit under which payments, assistance, credits or reduced rates of fees are provided" are lawfully in the United States. To comply with state law and make a good faith effort to confirm lawful status of all students enrolled in Ozarks Technical Community College credit courses, verification of lawful status must be received by OTC prior to enrolling in classes. This can be done one of two ways: through FAFSA electronic verification or by submission of documentation.
The Office of the Registrar may place a hold on a student's account stating Verification of Lawful Status is incomplete. This hold will only be applied if the Registrar's Office is unable to electronically verify a student's legal status in accordance with Missouri HB 1549. The electronic checking in place includes verifying Social Security Numbers with the Social Security Administration through FAFSA applications.
If a student does not meet the electronic verification the Registrar's Office has in place, the student will need to provide one of the documents indicated below before they are eligible to register for any semester.
- A Missouri driver's or any state license
- An official Missouri Identification Card
- An official domestic State Identification Card
- U.S. Birth Certificate
- U.S. Passport (valid or expired)
- Military Identification
- Certificate of Citizenship
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Certificate of Birth Abroad
- Resident Alien Card "I -551"
- Passport Stamped "Approved I-551"
- Passport stamped "Processed for I-551"
- Re-Entry Permit "I-337"
- I-94 stamped "Processed for I-551"
- Refugee Travel Document (Form I-571) with current valid expiration date
