Dr. LaRaine Bauer
Dean of Special Academic Programs
LaRaine Bauer is the Dean of OTC Special Academic Programs. She was hired in 2007 to design an innovative, contemporary model of education for students ready to leave the traditional high school behind. In August of 2008, Middle College successfully opened with 32 students enrolled. Since then, Middle College has experienced a lot of success and expanded to serving over 115 students with a strong staff and dedicated leadership. Dr. Bauer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education in Family & Consumer Sciences. Later, she would attain a Master of Science in Guidance & Counseling and spend 13 years as a school counselor with Springfield Public Schools. Dr. Bauer earned her Ph.D. in 2005 from Saint Louis University in Higher Education Administration. In the past few years, she has spoken many times at the local, state, and national level about the benefits and lessons learned in alternative education and the amazing success story of OTC Middle College. After 23 years in education, she continues to be inspired by her students and demonstrates an unlimited passion for her work. Dr. Bauer states that growing up in a rural farming area as a First Generation College Student, she did not know the steps to higher education, but at Middle College, every student has adult role models who can help them successfully transition to college life. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, hanging out at the lake, bargain shopping, and her family.
