Middle College (High School Students)

OTC Middle College is a contemporary, academic pathway for students who are struggling within the limitations of traditional high school and may be ready for a more mature environment. Many underperforming students have greater academic abilities and could achieve their potential if given an opportunity in a different environment. Middle College is designed for the students who have historically lacked access to higher education such as First Generation College Students (FGCS), low income students, ethnic/minority students, and others that could benefit from an exceptional High School to College transition program. Students' with unique, individual life circumstances may find attending a non-traditional school more flexible to fit specific needs. Over 125 students attend Middle College from the southwest Missouri area.
Students accepted into Middle College finish their junior and senior years of high school on OTC's campus. Eligible students start college early with a focus in Career &Technical Education including early childhood, computer services, diesel/automotive technology, medical services and health professions academy. Students develop leadership and employability skills, social skills, and participate in local internships to facilitate a seamless transition to the workforce or post-secondary education.
All Springfield Public School students are eligible to apply. Students from outlying area schools may request to be considered and should see their high school counselor for information. Middle College is a scholarship-based program provided by your local school district and OTC. Selected students will receive free college tuition, textbooks, and various services upon selection and enrollment through Middle College.
