The Academy is designed to strengthen the leadership skills of any emerging leader. Past classes have included faculty members, deans, college directors and student support professionals.
What makes the Academy different from other leadership seminars?
The Academy focuses specifically on leadership in community colleges, and introduces participants on a personal level to some of the most successful leaders in this sector of higher education. Each evening concludes with an informal give-and-take with a panel of the day's presenters.
What is the focus of the curriculum?
The Academy uses the six competencies of successful community college leaders identified by AACC through a Kellogg grant as the basis for its core curriculum. Sessions also cover Leading in a World of Change, Creating a Data-Informed Institutional Culture, and Leading through Innovation. Participants work in small teams to develop a position paper on a current issue facing community colleges and present their case to a panel of college leaders and board members.
