Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory

(M1) 5 or more years' experience in the Heating, Refrigeration, and A/C industry; (M2) EPA certification in handling refrigerants; (M3) Teaching experience, private or public; (M4) Graduate of an HAVCR program or hold an AAS Degree or ability to complete an AAS degree within 2 years; (M5) Current teaching certificate in secondary and post-secondary education from the state of Missouri and/or be willing to become certified at the applicants’ expense.

Desirable

(D1) Two years classroom experience; (D2) Computer literacy skills; (D3) Effective communication skills; (D3) National Career Readiness Certificate

Position Description

Position Title: Heating, Refrigeration, and A/C Instructor

Salary Classification: Exempt

Responsibilities:

The Instructor will be responsible for the instruction and management of assigned classes; will maintain professionalism within specialized field, including currency and required certifications; will participate on department and college-wide committees and assignments.

Authority:

Reports to, and is under the direct supervision of the Dean for Technical Education.

Duties:

1. Provides quality instruction which is current, accurate, interesting and up-to-date.

a. Maintains minimum contact hour teaching assignment as provided by college policy.

b. In accordance with approved course abstract and procedures, develops a course syllabus for each class taught and provides a copy to students and the division chair at the beginning of the semester.

c. Maintains discipline and decorum in the classroom. 

d. Maintains appropriate record keeping for assigned classes, to include an individual class roll book.

e. Schedules and keeps a minimum of five office hours per week, convenient to students.

f. Is available to assist students outside of scheduled classroom time.

g. Participates in departmental, committee, and college meetings and decisions. Attends meetings as scheduled and announced.

h. Assists in textbook selection.

i. Participates in curriculum development and works with advisory committees.

j. Completes required institutional course assessments.

2. Maintains professionalism.

a. Maintains currency of knowledge and skill in field of specialization and areas of instruction.

b. Maintains professional certification, including vocational certification for vocational-technical instructors.

c. Participates in professional organizations as appropriate.

d. Is involved in community activities and services which enhance or support the goals and mission of the college as appropriate.

e. Completes annual requirements for professional development.

3. Participates in various college activities and events (advising fairs, college fairs, recruitment events, commencement ceremony, etc.)

4. Sponsors student clubs and/or organizations as appropriate.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.
