Adult Education & Literacy

The mission of Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) is to provide specialized instruction to help students build or refresh the basic academic skills necessary for success in life skills, improvement of English as a Second Language, success on the Missouri High School Equivalence exams, preparation for post-secondary training or education and success in employment. Ozarks Technical Community College, Adult Education and Literacy program, in coordination with local school districts and agencies, provides Adult Education/HSE Learning Centers throughout Greene, Polk, Dallas, Laclede, Christian, Taney, Stone, Webster and Wright counties. The learning centers provide free, accessible, high-quality education to local community residents.

Day and evening classes are available. Classes are FREE and the courses are tailored to meet each individual's unique needs. Students are individually assessed and learning plans are created. Students must be a resident of Missouri, at least 17 years of age, and not enrolled in a secondary school. Students work at their own pace in small groups or individually with materials suited to their specific abilities. Courses can prepare students to take the Missouri High School Equivalency exams. Registration consists of filling out enrollment forms and an initial assessment and evaluation. Students must agree to the mandatory attendance policy of each class site.
