Graphic Design Technology Program Overview
Graphic designers are problem-solvers who research and manage visual design projects. In general, they consult with clients, analyze their needs and develop visual solutions. Then they prepare artwork or digital fi les for production. Graphic designers focus primarily on print media such as brochures, promotional posters, packaging, letterheads, fl yers, and publication design for books and magazines. They also may become a screen printing artist, design web sites, create 3D animation, produce sign graphics, or work as a photographer. Most design work is created on computers. Using industry standard software, students develop the ability and confi dence to determine appropriate and successful designs. They will demonstrate effective use of color, design principles/elements, typography, and production skills to make effective design layouts. Students may choose to work toward a Graphic Design Certifi cate (one year) or Graphic Design Technology Associate of Applied Science (two year) degree. After completion of this program students may enter the workforce as an entrylevel graphic designer, production artist, commercial artist, advertising artist, or may continue their education for an advanced degree.
