Student Support Programs

Student Support Programs

Student success at the College depends in large part on student support programs. But funding for these important
programs is in jeopardy.

The programs the College offers give students a chance to enhance and accelerate their learning experience whether
they are first-generation college students or those with remedial needs.

Those programs include:

  • The Middle College, which provides an avenue for selected at-risk high-school students, who show potential but need
motivation, a chance to study in selected technical fields while earning college credit and income through internships.
  • Remedial courses in various areas of study such as math, English and science that give students additional support and
programs that allow them to better grasp college-level academics.
  • The Tutoring and Learning Center where students can receive assistance for such courses as Biology, Math, Spanish,
Study Skills, Reading, Chemistry, Accounting, Keyboarding and Computer Applications.
  • The Writing and Speech Communications centers, where students can receive assistance in any aspect of a writing or
    speech project.

With the support of this initiative, the College plans to:

  • Staff the student support center with an expert in each content area for one-on-one tutoring.
  • Offer students a quiet location where they can go to focus on their studies.
  • Increase student success rates.
