Federal Work Study Program

Federal Work Study Program

Federal Work Study (FWS) is a campus-based federal financial aid program. The FWS program provides part-time jobs for students who have demonstrated "need", according to the results from their (FAFSA) Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The program allows students to earn money to help pay their education expenses. Funding for the FWS program is limited, and positions are filled through an interview process. Students are encouraged to apply early if they are interested in this program.

GETTING STARTED:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year for which they wish to be considered for Federal Work Study.
  • Be enrolled in a least 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters and at least 3 credit hours during the Summer semester to remain eligible to work.
  • Be degree seeking at OTC.

EMPLOYMENT PROCESS :

     1. Request Work-Study Assignment Form & Check Eligibility

  • Once you request a form from the link below, your actual eligibility will be determined based off your demonstrated need as defined by the (FAFSA) results.
  • Assignment form will only be issued if the student meets eligibility requirements.
  • The assignment form's maximum hours per week will be either 10 or 15 depending on student’s eligibility.
  • You will be notified via email when your work study assignment form is ready.  If you are not eligible, your email will provide an explanation.

Students selected for verification from the (FAFSA) will need to request another form for eligibility once verification is complete.

    2.   Interview Procedures

  •  View positions online at the link below.
  • Students must have a work-study assignment form before requesting an interview.
  • Contact the supervisor of the positions you’re interested in and request an interview.
  • Prepare for the interview with a copy of your class schedule and previous work history.
  • Take your assignment form to your interview; this lets the supervisor know you are eligible for work-study.

    3. Once you are selected for a work study position, you must:

  • Have both you and your supervisor sign the assignment form as indicated.
  • Go to Human Resources:
    • Complete direct deposit and employment forms with Human Resources.
    • Complete an OTC application for employment.
    • Authorize a background/consumer report
    • Wait to hear from Financial Aid regarding your eligibility.

IMPORTANT: Do not begin work until you have been notified via your MyOTC email account by the Financial Aid Office that you have been approved to begin work.

*Work study time sheets must be turned in at Student Services on the first work day of the month.*
