Paul Sundy - Excellence in Business
Paul Sundy started his entrepreneurial career in 2003 in downtown Springfield, and has opened and operated 16 different eating/drinking establishments over the last 10 years. His businesses have included Big Whiskey's American Bar & Grill, Parlor 88 Lounge & Eatery, Opus Cigar Bar, and Dublin's Pass Irish Pub & Restaurant. In addition, Sundy brought the Whole Hog BBQ and Einstein Bros. Bagels franchises to Springfield, and opened locations in Little Rock, Ark., and Chicago, Ill.
In 2011, Sundy ventured into new territory with the development of English Management, a business focusing on restaurant and event management. Under English Management, he played an integral role in the proposal and approval of the Springfield City Ordinance allowing alcohol to be served on Park Central Square for approved community events. Sundy soon found himself involved in the creation of downtown's Oktoberfest Village and Craft Beer Bash, and in a new management role at the historic Gillioz Theatre.
Sundy's future plans include the continued growth of his existing brands and community events, as well as the development of English Apparel and Promotional Materials.
As an employer, Sundy is dedicated to the approximately 350 people who work for him. Over the years, he has brought people up within the company from entry-level to management, and in some cases, to partnership with him on brand expansions.
Sundy supports numerous causes within the communities where he operates his businesses. He is a member of the OTC Foundation Board of Directors and the board of the Springfield Convention and Visitor's Bureau, and has also been involved with the City of Springfield's Hospitality Resource Panel. In addition, Sundy received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Ozarks Technical Community College in 2010.
A native of Marionville, Sundy holds an associate degree from OTC. He and his wife, Crystal, have an eight-year-old son, Presley, and a five-year-old daughter, Kinley.
