MANDATORY: (M1) Completion of, or significant progress towards an Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning; (M2) At least 1 year of experience using technology in education; (M3) working knowledge of audio formats (wav, wma, mp3, aac, etc). (M4) At least 1 year of direct customer service experience

Desirable

DESIRABLE: (D1) Experience with conversion software (Abby Fine Reader, Capture Perfect, Dolphin Easy Producer (D2) Experience interacting with persons with disabilities.

The Assistive Technology Specialist for Disability Support Services will have two primary responsibilities:

·         Make academically-related materials (primarily textbooks and manuals) accessible to students with disabilities through conversion of print materials into alternate format (large print, audio file, etc.)

·         Supervise the Disability Support Services Assistive Technology Lab to ensure access to the programs and services for students with disabilities at OTC.

Duties:

Duties:    

  1. Oversees and maintains the inventory of adaptive/assistive technology devices such as audio-book players, FM Loop systems, voice recorders, etc.      
  2. Oversees and maintains software programs and licenses such as Kurzweil, JAWS, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Zoom Text, etc.    
  3. Provides one-on-one training for students in the use of assistive technology.    
  4. Workswith DSS Staff to ensuring that assistive technology is available to students at all OTC Campuses and Education Centers.      
  5. Stays current with new technologies for students with disabilities and recommending new technology for purchase, as appropriate.  
  6. Conducts periodic presentations on assistive technology to DSS Staff and the OTC Community.    
  7. Provides general, first level computer technical support to DSS Staff.   
  8. Assists DSS Counseling staff as a liaison between student and instructor where assistive technology issues arise.   
  9. Maintains the DSS WebpageTroubleshoot assistive technology issues as they arise.  
  10. Pursues grant funding opportunities for new technologies and upgrades.   
  11. Attends conferences to learn about new technology opportunities.
