Position Description:
Job Title: TLC Academic Tutor—Chemistry
Title: TLC Chemistry Tutor
Description & Responsibilities:
1. The tutor assists students in developing the concepts necessary to complete students’ academic goals.2. The tutor must conduct him or herself in a professional manner and in accordance with OTC policies.
3. The tutor assists students only in the subject(s) for which he/she has qualified based on grades and faculty recommendations. The tutor must maintain a GPA of 3.00 in this/these subject area(s).
4. The tutor seeks to encourage and build student esteem and shows respect to all students regardless of the level of knowledge or course level.
5. The tutor facilitates student learning; he/she never simply provides answers. The mission of the TLC is “Empowering students to achieve success.” This philosophy must begin with the tutor.
6. The tutor freely seeks assistance from other tutors, supervisors, textbook resources, and other instructors in his/her subject area whenever he/she has the least uncertainty about responding to a student’s need or question.
7. The tutor actively works toward College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) certification by attending meetings and completing assignments to further his/her tutoring skills. CRLA Certification Level I must be obtained within the first year of employment.
8. The tutor is friendly and courteous to all students and staff.
9. The tutor responds readily to the supervision of all TLC staff members. (The TLC is open 60 hours/week; supervision of the TLC rotates between staff members.)
10. The tutor keeps his/her supervisor informed on any schedule conflicts (giving a minimum of two day notice if at all possible).
11. The tutor is punctual in filling his/her assigned scheduled times.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the tutor’s supervisor.

Skills/Abilities:
Work Experience:
Required - none
Desired - Experience teaching or tutoring others. Work that required good communication and interpersonal skills.
Education:
1. Written recommendation of an instructor for CHM 101 or higher.
2. Grade of "A" or "B" in CHM 101 or higher.
