Information about Counseling Services for Employees

Information & So Much More!

Most of the services provided through the Counseling Services department are open to all members of the OTC community.  There are some services, however, which are provided specifically for OTC's faculty and staff.  The links below will provide more about what Counseling Services has to offer our employees!

OTCCares

OTC Cares is a set of resources for faculty, staff and students that have been established to protect the health and safety of our community at OTC.  Maintaining a safe environment allows students to focus on their education and get the most out of their time at the College.

The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) is one of the resources of OTC Cares.  The BIT is designed to reach out to students who seem to be hurting or struggling, and to help maintain a safe campus by intervening when potential red flag behaviors are identified.  Reporting the issues of concern can assist the BIT in connecting students with the appropriate resources.  Additional information on the OTC Behavioral Intervention Team can also be found on the OTC Cares link.

Individual and Group Counseling

Occasionally students encounter situations in their lives that affect the learning environment. When these situations arise, counselors are available to provide short-term counseling assistance, and, in some cases, referral to community resources for long-term help. Meeting individually with a professional counselor in a private setting can help students to clarify thoughts and feelings, develop problem-solving skills and coping strategies, and to construct a plan for the future. Students may also wish to participate in group counseling opportunities, which are made available each semester to those currently enrolled at OTC. Small groups (six to twelve individuals) may form around the topics of depression, test anxiety, study skills, life transitions, relaxation or grief. Additional topics will always be considered.

Referral Guides and additional resources can be found on the main Counseling Services webpage.
