About our Center
The Early Childhood Education Center is a licensed facility through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services ages 2 to 5 that serves students, faculty, staff and the community. The center is accredited through the Missouri Accredidation of Programs for Children and Youth. The Early Childhood Education Center features experienced teachers with professional backgrounds in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. As a training facility for the college's Early Childhood program, students help maintain a low child to teacher ratio.
The center has four classrooms, which are staffed by two full time teachers. Each classroom at the center provides developmentally appropriate activities that encourage and stimulate the cognitive, creative, emotional, social, and physical development of each child in a safe, secure, and nurturing atmosphere. The classrooms offer activities such as cooking, music, art, large and small group activities, problem solving, and field trips! Indoor and outdoor experiences enhance large and small muscle development and coordination. Teachers guide children in appropriate social interaction that helps to promote self-condfidence in relationships. Families are encouraged to participate in their child's learning experience by volunteering to participate in classroom activities, classroom visits, parent teacher meetings, and as representatives on the center's Parent Advisory Board.
In addition to the full time teachers, each classroom is staffed by part time staff and work study assistants. If you would like to apply for a work study position or request an assignment form, click here. For more information about the Federal Work Study program see "Work Study Information." In partnership with the Early Childhood Education Center, the Early Childhood Development program uses the classrooms to provide an environment that students can use to get hands on experience. Students in the ECD program can observe and learn while the facility provides child care. For more information on the Early Childhood Development program, click here.
Parents that are students at OTC and Pell eligible can apply for the CCAMPIS Grant, which helps pay for a portion of your child's tuition. To get the best price you can afford, we encourage grant participants to apply for state assistance, as well.
**Note: Daytime child care services are provided according to the college academic calendar, during the fall and spring semesters, when classes are in session. The center is closed during the summer semester.**
