First-time College Student

While attending college is exciting, we know it can also be stressful. The following list should help you get started and provide resources available to aide you through the process.

Apply for Admission

You can complete the application online, pick up a paper copy in Student Services or print the application.

Apply for Financial Aid

For application information, please see Financial Aid.  The priority deadline for the spring '10 semester is November 13. Financial aid files will continue to be processed after November 13, however, students who submit required documentation after the priority deadline should be prepared to pay out of pocket.  Need more information? Attend an information session on paying for college.

If you are a veteran planning to use the GI Bill, please see Veteran's Affairs.

Complete Orientation

All new OTC students are required to complete orientation prior to meeting with an advisor and enrolling in classes. Orientation is strongly recommended for readmitted students who have been away from OTC for awhile. Start the online orientation.

Take the Placement Test

Placement testing is required for all students who do not have ACT scores, or their ACT scores are older than 2 years.  Placement testing is also required for transfer students who have not taken English and/or math in college and for students pursuing certain allied health programs. Walk-in's are accepted with photo identification. For more information, including testing times and sample questions, see Placement Testing.

Request Your Official Transcripts

All students are required to provide an official high school transcript or GED certificate.  Transfer students should also request official transcripts from all colleges attended.  Mail or fax to: Ozarks Technical Community College, 1001 E Chestnut Expressway, Springfield, MO, 65802 or 417-447-6925.

Take a Free Career Assessment

If you are undecided on a major or are unsure of a career path, then a career assessment may be of benefit to you and assist with your college and career making decisions.  To schedule an appointment, please call 417-447-6974.

Attend a STAR Seminar

STAR (STudent Advising & Registration) seminars are offered on the Springfield and Richwood Valley campuses and must be scheduled in advance. STAR is strongly recommended for readmitted students whose last date of attendance was prior to spring 2009. To register, see STAR

For advising at the Branson, Lebanon and Waynesville Education Centers, please call the Education Center directly (Branson 417-447-8920, Lebanon 417-447-8932, Waynesville 417-447-6631).

If you will be a distance education student and are unable to visit one of our locations, please email Distance Advising.  Be sure to include your name, the last 4 digits of your social security number and an explanation of your situation.

Register For Classes

The earlier you register, the more choices of you will have in class offerings and times.  See Registration Dates.

Make Tuition Payment Arrangements

By registering for classes, each student accepts responsibility for payment of all tuition and fees. Full payments can be made online through the AccessOTC tab in MyOTC on the Student Access Menu. For a complete list of deadline dates, see Tuition Payment Information.

  • Option #1—Pay tuition and fees in full. This can be done through the AccessOTC tab in MyOTC on the Student Access Menu or at the Cashier's Office, 2nd floor, Information Commons.
  • Option #2—Enroll with e-Cashier each semester. You can register for e-Cashier AFTER you have registered in classes for the upcoming semester. The sooner you enroll with e-Cashier, the more payment plan choices you will have.

Attend New Student Welcome Day

While the New Student Welcome Day is optional, it is a great opportunity for you to come to campus before school starts and learn about student organizations and OTC resources, pick up your textbooks, locate your classrooms and simply ask questions.
