Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy
Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy
The Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy at Ozarks Technical Community College was created in January 2004. Our goal is to share our knowledge, experiences, and best practices with higher education institutions, medical organizations, and businesses trying to implement tobacco-free policies.
We know through research that the #1 thing that helps people quit smoking is prohibition in the workplace. Knowing that by sharing our experiences and helping others institute such policies helps people quit a habit that claims thousands of lives yearly and ensures non-smokers are not subjected to second-hand smoke provides us with continued ambition and hope. The mission of the Center of Excellence focuses on five main areas:
- Collect best practices from higher education institutions successfully implementing tobacco-free campus policy.
- Perform ongoing research on the impact of tobacco-free campus policy.
- Organize workshops to provide information to prospective campuses that are considering going tobacco-free.
- Disseminate information to those interested in tobacco-free campus policy.
- Pursue funding for The Center.
